We are a mother/daughter team who have been dedicated to the Lagotto Romagnolo breed since 2008.
Our lines are based on the lovely dogs that we have imported from wonderful kennels overseas during this period of time. We have also worked with other Australian breeders and are grateful for this global co-operation towards improving the breed. We are extremely proud of the extended canine family that we have worked very hard to build.
Health and temperament are absolutely paramount for us in our breeding program. All of our breeding dogs are hip and elbow scored with excellent results. Eyes are examined by a specialist. Patellas are checked, hearts are checked. All are genetically tested with MyDogDNA to ensure that they are clear of any known issues within our breed.
We show our dogs in the cooler months and attend the Adelaide Royal Dog Show to represent our breed in the ring and also for the opportunity to chat with the general public about our breed. We have a long history of attending pet events and have always been very involved in the promotion of the Lagotto.
*The Breed*
The Lagotto is an ancient breed from Italy whose job was originally that of a duck retriever, later repurposed as a truffle dog, but always a family dog. The breed can be seen in frescos and paintings as far back as the 1400's. The Lagotto was in danger of extinction, but the breed was saved by a group of dedicated dog lovers whose work began in the 1970's. The Italian Lagotto Club came into being in 1988 and has had many knowledgeable, passionate people involved since the beginning.
Lagotto Romagnolo are a rustic, squarely built, medium sized dog, with a curly coat that is low shedding in the same way as a poodle, which means that they are a breed that requires grooming. No breed is hypoallergenic, however there are many Lagotto owners whose particular allergies are not triggered by them.
We encourage you to visit our website to find out more about this breed. We have many photographs of our dogs, further information on the breed, and take pride in being completely transparent and publishing all health results dating back to our original dogs.
